Joey Logano Dominates Xfinity Race at Bristol Motor Speedway

Joey Logano in the Discount Tire, Team Penske No. 22, FORD Mustang powered by Roush Yates Engines dominated Saturday’s Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. He led all 300 laps in-route to an impressive win in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS).

Logano qualified second and immediately rocketed to the lead down the backstretch from his inside starting position. It was a total team effort as the race witnessed 8 cautions and through multiple pit stops, the Discount Tire team stayed out front. At one point, Logano had nearly a five second lead on the field.

“I’ve never led every single lap in a race before,” said Logano in Victory Lane, “It seems like every time I’ve got in this Discount Tire FORD this year it’s been remarkable.”

The 24 year old has won 23 Xfinity Series races in 138 starts. He became the first driver in NXS to lead every lap at Bristol along with leading the most laps in the history of an NXS event. It was his second career win at Bristol and second win of the 2015 season in NXS competition. With the win, the No. 22 team extended its lead in the NXS Owner’s point standings to 20 over the No. 88 of JR Motorsports.

“They build such nice equipment at Penske Racing,” said Greg Erwin, Crew Chief for Joey Logano, “Our people in particular, our road crew and our shop crew, I’ve got to thank them because the things been a rocket ship off the truck.”

Chris Buescher in the Roush Performance Parts, Roush Fenway Racing No. 60, FORD Mustang powered by Roush Yates Engines finished third. The third place finish, placed Buescher in a tie for the NXS points with fellow driver Ty Dillon.

“That’s by far the best we’ve ever been here,” said Buescher, “The guys did a great job. It was a tough day.”

Buescher has one top five and three top-10 finishes in just four career NXS starts at Bristol. In seven NXS starts, he has four top-5 and five top-10 finishes. Joining Buescher in the top-10 in NXS points are fellow Roush Fenway Racing teammates Darrel Wallace (4th), Ryan Reed (5th) and Elliot Sadler (6th).

The NASCAR Xfinity Series now rolls to Richmond International Raceway for a 7:30pm night race on Friday, April 24. Qualifying begins at 3:45pm on Friday with all of action LIVE ON FOX Sports 1.
