Celebrate the Mundane with Concours d’LeMons at Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports Mitty

smittyNot content with ruining just one major automotive event a year, Grassroots Motorsports and Hagerty have teamed up to bring the Concours d’LeMons to Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports Mitty Presented by Hagerty to feature the oddball, mundane and truly awful of the automotive world.

Grassroots Motorsports is supporting its sister magazine’s vintage racing event at Road Atlanta this Spring with Speedfest at the Mitty, an infield celebration of racing culture with a midway, vendors, car corrals and Concours D’LeMons.

On April 27, 2014, a patch of paddock near the midway at Road Atlanta during Speedfest at the Mitty crap cars from all over the southeast will be on display for the world to see. While the Mitty is normally a bastion of the finest vintage race machines from all over the world, this year Grassroots Motorsports has invited Concours d’LeMons to the infield for a show of unequaled proportions.

Hoopties of every sort will converge to showcase the worst ideas ever inflicted on the motoring public. Grassroots Motorsports has sponsored this expansion of the Concours d’LeMons empire to include the Mitty. According to towing company records and court documents, the Concours d’LeMons has been dropping rusty car parts all over the Monterey peninsula during the Pebble Beach Auto Week for the past five years, and now it is Georgia’s turn to feel the effects of the largest group of improbable machinery to descend on the area since snow plows hit Atlanta during Snowmaggeddon. Lauded by those with a sense of humor and reviled by the purists, the Concours d’LeMons takes a satirical look at the world of automotive concours. Bribery of the capricious celebrity judges is encouraged as they peruse entrants in classes such as Rust Belt American Junk, Soul-Sucking Japanese Appliances and Needlessly Complex Italian.

The highlight of the afternoon comes after the judges sober up enough to find and give away the coveted Worst of Show Trophy. Registration for your awful ride, photos from past shows, and the gory details about the whole debacle can be found here.
