Grassroots Motorsports Partners with Mazda

Grassroots Motorsports LogoHolly Hill, Florida – Grassroots Motorsports magazine (GRM) and Mazda North American Operations have teamed up to promote grassroots/privateer racing for 2014. Beginning with the Grassroots Motorsports Experience at the Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona January 23-26, Mazda began its 2014 marketing partnership with GRM with expanded fan interactions and insider access to its Mazda Motorsports garage and pit operations. This included guided tours of its racing operations at the Rolex 24, product outreach, a special dinner seminar and loads of giveaways and prizes for Grassroots Motorsports Experience ticketholders.

For more than a decade, Grassroots Motorsports and its partners have hosted the Grassroots Motorsports Experience at the Rolex 24, and it has been an interactive fan- and reader-focused event. Our 2014 marketing partners for the event included the Daytona International Speedway, Continental Tire, Mazda, Wilwood Disc Brakes, EFS Combust, SpeedSource, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Perry’s Ocean Edge Resort.

The event featured special insider access for guests, a world-class race hospitality area and VIP parking. Throughout the weekend, guests enjoyed unfettered access to the Grassroots Motorsports marketing partners to learn more about their products and register for free giveaways. Moving forward, Mazda will support more Grassroots Motorsports events and remain committed to providing GRM readers with the best information and racing support.

MAZDASPEED began in 1967 as a grassroots racing team dedicated to turning Mazda production vehicles into racing cars. Today, Mazda Motorsports still concentrates its focus on grassroots racing, as amateur and professional drivers throughout the racing scene select Mazdas to be a competitive start in their quests for victory. From SCCA Solo events to the Pirelli World Challenge to the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, Mazda is a notable partner in the engineering, design and support of privateer and professional racing.

“The team at Grassroots Motorsports works hand in hand with Mazda to help reduce the cost of moving enthusiasts from the stadium to the starting grid through the promotion of Mazda’s unique motorsports program,” said Tim Suddard, publisher of Grassroots Motorsports magazine. “Mazda has proved time and again that they are dedicated grassroots racers, and our continued partnership is part and parcel to our goal of increasing interest in motorsports.”

To help make racing more affordable, Mazda offers discounts on parts and easy access to information through their Team Support program. Call or go online ( to purchase the parts you need—both OEM and aftermarket—to build a competitive race car. To qualify, you must be a member of a qualified sanctioning body (such as SCCA or NASA), and either submit photos of the construction of your Mazda-powered race car or results from a recent event. To remain in the program, participants must compete in and provide race results for at least two events per year.

Mazda increases the appeal of their marque by offering thousands of dollars in prize money through their Mazda Motorsports contingency program. Whether your passion is autocross, Solo 2, Club Racing, or the professional ranks, there’s contingency money up for grabs.

“Mazda has more grassroots racers than any other car company, and GRM readers have an amazingly high percentage of Mazdas, so it’s a natural match,” said Steve Sanders, Mazda Motorsports program manager. “This is not ‘marketing’ for us. It’s simply saying thank you to our family of hardcore enthusiasts.”

“For those of us who are lucky enough to be paid to be at a race track, it’s a lot of fun to share the behind-the-scenes activities with people who share the passion,” Sanders continued.
